AN/PSQ-20 mount

15 02 2017

A new element since 2009 is appear on the soldier helmet. A new kind of NVG  mount for a new NVG. The PSQ-20 is a night vision goggles with combine night vision and thermal vision, in the same size of the pvs-14. But to be used it must be mounted in a new rhino arm. The PSQ-20 mount is composed of a mount, a arm and a battery pack.

The mount is in 2 parts, the front where you can fix the arm and back where the LPBP is connected to powered the NVG (both are link by a wire which passed inside the helmet shell)

The font look like the PGAST mount with a one hole screw, and the LPBP mount is fixed with 2 screws of the chin strap.

The arm clamp has pin for the NVG power (on the back arm too) to be connected to the mount. The LPBP (Low Profil Battery Pack) as pin too for the background mount.

The LPBP could be disconnected from the mount in pulling the black knob on the top.The front knob is used to open the front panel  and access to the batteries. 4 AA

With the new US ARMY camouflage (OCP/Multicam), all the gear must to be changed. All pouches, and if they are the same, one has won a new design. She has been at the beginning only a color make over, but she has been improved with a new pouch and accessories. The IFAK 2 is still a personal medic pouch but more complete.

  • an eye shield
  • a rubber seal with a valve
  • a strap cutter
  • and 2 tourniquet in 2 independent pouch

Communication. Do you copy ? OVER

25 01 2017

I Haven’t new pics right now, so I ‘ll make something with old archives which are always usefull.

Let me introduce some communication devices used by the US FORCES. There are speakers/Handmic which are connected directly to the the radio.

The most seen on the field is the famous THALES speaker.

A 6 pins plug connected on the PRC-148 or PRC-152. Could be used with a earpieces which cut the speaker sound for a low profile use. Mic on the front and a PTT on the right side.

his older brother is the Sonetronics H-250 field phone. I’ll post later an improved version with a volume button and earpiece plug, the H-250B handset.

As a standard home phone, a speaker on top, and a mic down, press the PTT to talk and release when it’s finish. As the THALES handset a 5 pins pug is connected to the radio.

In the same family, the GEEK cousin, the HRCRD (Handheld Remote Control Radio Device) Handset C-12493/U, is a radio speaker handset with a control dashboard. Which is used to control the radio by the operator without removing the pack to get access to the front panel.

I’m back after a very long time (I don’t know why), but I’ve received a comment last week, the pleasure to post again is come to my mind. A lot of Gear is arrived in 6 years. I hope to find the courage to take picture and post some pieces. I’ve changed the header with a multicam touch ’cause the gear is change too.

Winter Army Combat Shirt

22 07 2011

I’ve received yesterday a rare piece not often seen. A Winter Army Combat Shirt. Almost the same form as the standard ACS (1st & 2nd gen), but it’s more softer thank to the fleece. I’ ve read on that this shirt hasn’t been adopted by the us army after his test. It’s no more available on MASSIF, you could read all the feedback from a GI on the previous link.

ACS : Army Combat Shirt (UCP & MultiCam)

14 07 2011

When IOTV has been done to soldiers,  some feedbacks were the heat between the body (t-shirt + acu vest) and the body armor in the hot climate zone. A new product has been developed by MASSIF (mountain gear), a kind of t-shirt with long sleeve which combine new innovation.  As a mix with cotton and spandex on torso which allow a good breath, and dry faster than a cotton vest and build with a fire resistance fiber (more info on massif website). The Army Combat Shirt preserve the pocket on sleeve like the vest but used zip instead of velcro (no more pocket on torso. Massif has had directly on the shirt a kind of elbow foam pad.

the first gen of ACS was product with the US ARMY logo (army strong ) on the front, but with the success of this product non-us army crew worn it, like USAF (before the ABU uniform) so a 2nd gen has been product without the logo. The new combat shirt in MultiCam Partern used the 2nd gen model.
